Kanva Reservoir

Kanva Reservoir is a man-made artificial lake of Kanva reservoir formed by the waters of river Kanva it is located approx. Kanva Dam was built in 1946 across the Kanva River for irrigation It is 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) long and covers 776 hectares. this artificial lake used to be a mere irrigation project but now is a famous tourist attraction which attracts bird watchers and adventure seekers. situated about 60 km from Bangalore, 10 kilometers from Ramanagaram.T he Kanva river (a tributary of the Cauvery river) is named after the sage Kanva, who is believed to have lived in the caves in the mountains and forests around the dam in the time of Ramayana. On one end of the dam, there is a Fisheries Training Center located. Also some 3 km away a temple dedicated to Purushothama Tirtha Gavi has situated nearby the Kanava Reservoir. You can see a fisheries training and research center at another side of the Kanva Reservoir, The main intention was to make the villagers self-sustaining by way of fish farming. This is an ideal spot for a short picnic. Ensure you carry enough food/snacks. There is nothing but a solitary make-shift “shop-hut” which has basic snacks/water etc.
