Janapada Loka

Bangalore – mysore highway 4 km from Ramanagara. Janapada loka or Folk world or folk culture, folk museum that has an exclusive display of the village folk arts of Karnataka. It is under the aegis of the Karnataka janapadaa parishat. Loka mahal, a wing in the museum has a dislay of 5,000 folk artifacts. It is situated in Ramanagara district , on the south of Bangalore. H. L. Nage Gowda, an Indian civil servent and folklorist thought of creating a museum to exhibit the varied folk art and cutlture of Karnataka. According Karnataka janapada parishat was first established on 21 march 1979. Folk arts museum, Loka mahal, chitra kuteera, Doddamane, Shilamala, Arghyamala etc. The museum has a collection of 5,000 folk artefacts. The display includes an array of agriculture hunting and fishing implements, weapons, ingenious household adgetsmasks, dolls and shadow puppets this place is most attract of tourists. Janapada Loka translates into English as a ‘Folkcosmos’. Visit the beautiful 15-acre campus, where Karnataka’s rural milieus have been recreated to keep the pulse of the past alive. Shri H.L. Nage Gowda, a long-serving civil servant and lover of folk culture of India, is the creator and conceptual architect of this prominent cultural centre of India. As an institution it is dedicated to promoting, preserving, publicising and propagating the native folk culture of Karnataka. Today it has become a hub of continuing activities and festivals, highlighting the cultural and aesthetic dimensions of native art forms and storytelling. Since its inception in 1979, it has been a platform for rural artisans, musicians and craftspeople to showcase as well as market their works of art. The main attraction of Janapada Loka is the folks arts museum, which plays host to artifacts belonging to the folk culture, along with different instruments of music, agriculture and farming.
